In case you were wondering what our INDEE girls are up to during this confinement, meet INDEE girl Nell, 15. Nell loves nothing more than to curl up with a good book. She is happy to share a selection of her favorite ones with you.

"A good book is a discovery, a voyage towards new horizons."

I am curious about literally everything says Nell. To me, a good book is a discovery, a voyage towards new horizons. I especially love stories about, or written by, strong and independent women: the story of Rosa Parks for instance is one of the most empowering stories I’ve ever read and I also really enjoyed Michelle Obama’s autobiography.

"I love a good suspense novel"

My Dad insisted I read Yuval Harari’s Sapiens and although I’m quite young and found some parts a bit complicated, I thought it was fascinating and ended up reading it twice. When I want to escape into another world and forget everything around me, I love a good suspense novel by Camilla Lackberg or Lisa Gardner. They are real page-turners and I can’t put them down! And let’s not forget the greatest suspense writer of all times: Agatha Christie. I’ve been fortunate enough to go on several trips abroad with my parents, and I love to add to these travel impressions by reading more on the destinations I have discovered.

I’m also into architecture, design and handcrafted textiles. I have been collecting hand-made ponchos since I was a little girl, as well as printed textiles from Asia and Africa and embroidered shirts from Mexico and Russia.  I’m especially attracted to hand-made artefacts created by women all over the world, which inspire me in my personal style.

I love Art books and recently discovered the work of Sonia Delaunay, a Russian artist born in 1885 who spent most of her life in Paris. She was famous for her abstract and geometric patterns and was one of the first women to include furniture, fabrics, wall coverings and clothing into her art practice.

"Fashion is the reflection of a generation"

When I’m not reading books about art or design, I like to keep up with the latest trends by reading more alternative, cutting edge magazines like Wonderland or i-D which offer a fresh new look at fashion away from stereotypes and anything too mainstream.

I hope that you too are taking this time at home to read your favorite authors. Stay safe, and enjoy the Spring!

"Books are written for sharing"

Nell shares with you her selection of books so that you too can be captivated by authors as eclectic as Agata Christie or Michelle Obama.
So that you too can be inspired by huge artists or by this new generation of talents who are making fashion a more humane and accessible world.
